National Solar Schools Program

Since the National Solar Schools program commenced on 1 July 2008, over 8000 schools have registered their interest to participate (85% of all eligible schools).

Over 4600 schools have been awarded a grant, totalling more than $190 million in funding. Over 90 per cent of these projects include solar power systems.

Of these, more than 2,600 projects have been installed across the nation. These schools are already generating their own electricity from renewable sources and improving their energy efficiency by reducing energy consumption.

All PV systems installed on Schools by SOLAR NEWCASTLE include a comprehensive Network Communications Package. This will allow the schools to use the data uploaded to Web Graphs Portal to be used in the education of the pupils. It will also allow the system administrators to monitor the systems energy creation and performance from a desktop location anywhere throughout the DET Network without having to go out to the inverter location.

The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) has opened for applications. The 2012–13 application round will close on 4 May 2012. This is the last opportunity for schools to apply.
